General Programme Information COOLAGENT - General Programme Information What is an Au Pair? An Au Pair is young person (female or male) who comes to the UK to improve their English and to experience British way of life. There is no age limit to be an Au Pair after 1st May 2004 and also no limit of the lenght of a stay. However an Au Pair usually stays with the family for 6 - 12 months. There are also applicants who wish to be an Au Pair for a short period of time only - two or three months, usually during summer holidays. Duties The duties of an Au-Pair generally include helping host family with general light housework and childcare for up to 5 hours per day, or a maximum of 25 hours per week. In addition, 2 evenings of baby-sitting are required. Pocket money The recommended minimum of pocket money is 60 GBP per week. However, many families offer more pocket money, especially when there are 3 or more children in the family. Pocket money should be paid weekly to the Au Pair. Conditions An Au Pair has to be provided with her/his own room. It is very important to make an Au Pair feel like a member of the family and involve her/him in social life of the host family. An Au Pair must have free time every evening when babysitting is not required, as well as two full days off a week. Language courses Most of Au Pairs who come to UK are happy to take language courses and improve their English. The fees are paid by the Au Pair but it is helpful to assist your Au Pair in finding suitable classes which are at a convinient time for family. Final placement and Invitation After making the decision of which candidate is the one for you, please contact our office (020 7101 2933). We will immediately contact potential Au Pair, explaining to her/him the positon requirements and let you when s/he can arrive. Once Au Pair is finaled with you, we will require an Invitation letter for her/him. The Au Pair arranges her/his journey to London on her/his expenses. The host family pays for the journey from London to final destination. It is natural that the Au Pair is met by the host family at the airport or coach station.
